Hi, I’m Steve Sautter. A few of you may know my name, but most all of you will recognize my Montana Outdoor Radio Show personality, Colonel Smoothbore.

I’ve appeared on the show with the Captain and his crew many times.  Most often, we focus on some of the larger trap shooting tourneys in Montana, as well as, the clay target sports in general. This is the first of many posts coming in the following weeks, months, and hopefully years. We will be discussing firearms, and firearm related subjects.

Here’s some of my background. I’m a native Montanan, born and raised in Townsend. I have been living in Missoula for most of the last 40 years. I started shooting when I was about 8 years old. I’ve been hunting, fishing, and shooting all my life.  I’ve sent a lot of lead downrange in the last 50 years and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. I am a National Rifle Association Certified Instructor, NRA Certified Level 2 Shooting Coach, and NRA Certified Range Safety Officer. I’ve been shooting competitive trap and skeet for years with some success, including a few state class titles in both. I been teaching shotgun courses for about 5 years and just recently expanded my instructional program.

I think you’ll find these posts insightful, interesting, and entertaining. I’ll look at not only shotguns, but also handguns, and rifles. Ammunition, storage, shooting tips, cleaning, and competition are just a few of the subjects that will be covered.

I’ll help you make the transition from target practice to hunting and hopefully help to put meat on the table. If you have a question for me, send it via email to guncoach@gmail.com. Also, check out my website at www.guncoach.net.

Next week I’ll cover, “I wanna learn…” Until then, be safe, and good shooting.
