Lots of Subsurface Action on the MO: Helena Area Outdoor Report

Hi, it’s Angie from Bob Ward & Sons, & if you haven’t caught your MONSTER BROWN yet, well, better head for the MISSOURI while the gettin’s good!

The MISSOURI is one of the traditional places for the larger Browns to “hang out,” particularly by the dam, so get in there with your Minnow, Whitefish or Sculpzilla Streamers, or better yet, deaddrift your Big Munchie with a Baetis nymph dropper, since that hatch is flourishing at the moment…below Wolf Creek is a HOT SPOT, they’re reporting, with NYMPHS working best….some favorite choices right now are Glass Wing PMDs, Tan Scuds, Purple San Juans, or Soft Hackles, szs 14-18. Don’t discount your Egg patterns this time of the year, either…another solid choice! The biggest Baetis swarms are coming off around midafternoon…get out & TAKE ADVANTAGE!

The fish are stacking up at the Dams on HOLTER & HAUSER…anchor up & catch your fill with Leech Patterns, Wooly or Krystal Buggers or Sheep Creeks…Goose Bay, Hell Roaring & on up are the delectible spots on CANYON FERRY…try your Crayfish, Leeches, or strip any of your choicest Streamers to captivate the Lake Monsters…we like the Black/Copper Zonker in a 2…add a Nymph dropper to ramp up the action! Stay out of the WIND, if you can…..

No time like the present to drop by the Helena Bob Wards & talk shop with our fishing experts in house as well…we’ll share the latest we’ve heard, and tell you where we’ve been & what’s working…with water levels dropping or maintaining right now, it’s time to invest in new waders, wade shoes, & warm, waterproof gear to get you out on the rivers, & BOY do we have it in stock for you! I’ll catch you up in a week with what’s hatching & catching! Enjoy your fall fishing adventures, friends!
