g4As we enter the New Year, I thought it would be appropriate to let all of you know what is on tap in the coming months. Early on, we’ll continue our discussion of shotgun types, and then we’ll explore the numerous clay target disciplines. I’ll suggest some equipment, ammunition types, and shotguns for each, and explain the basic formats of how each game is played. We will check out the many fine organizations that support the shotgun and clay target sports.

When we have finished our shotgun studies, we’ll then move on to handguns. Much like our shotgun studies, we’ll explore the various types of handguns, their uses, and the ammunition needs of those who shoot pistols and revolvers. We’ll look at the many forms of handgun competitions and the governing bodies that host those competitions. We will also check out opportunities for hunting with handguns, along with the necessary equipment and ammunition needed to succeed in the field.

Of course, along the way, I will occasionally stray into other firearm related subjects. I’ll offer information on new products as the come into the market. I’ll also keep you informed about some of the competitions around Montana and let you know about classes that I will be conducting.

Speaking of classes, I recently received NRA Chief Range Safety Officer certification and I’ll soon be scheduling NRA RSO certification classes. If you or your gun club is interested in training RSOs, contact me at www.guncoach.net or email me at colsmoothbore@guncoach.net. Other NRA classes available for you or your club include the Basic and First Steps shotgun courses; reloading, both metallic and shotgun; and Refuse To Be A Victim Seminars. I’ll be adding NRA handgun classes in mid spring.

As we go into the New Year, I wish all of you very best. Get out your guns, go to the range, and have some fun.

Be safe and good shooting.
