Hi, this is Angie from Bob Ward & Sons & this is HELENA:

The area is looking to have above average snowfall from Jan 8 to 14, so keep an eye out! Canyon Ferry is continuing to freeze over.

There’s about 6-8” of ice on the south end. The last three weeks have been building up ice, with temperatures in the single digits at night. We recommend Black lures or Wooly Buggers fishing at 3-4’ in 8’ of water.

Trout fishing is good but as a reminder be safe and pay attention to the ice thickness.  We don’t have anyone driving out there yet, but if you plan on fishing in shallow water you should be golden.

The Causeway is another great bet for some solid ice fishing—we’ve had a lot more reports of great ice over there, especially on the Hauser Lake side.

On the Missouri, afternoons are spectacular—cluster midges are all kinds of HOT, & Streamer bite’s solid—try whites, like Zonkers or Flash Fry for best success.

As for skiing, Great Divide is sitting on 35” at the top & 25” at the base. Great Divide is open Wednesday thru Sunday with night skiing on Fridays until 9 pm, which is a BLAST!   Get up there and have some fun. If you are up for a bit of a drive, go check out Showdown by Monarch & Neihart.

Showdown currently has 31” at the top with 26” at the lodge. If you need any ski or snowboard gear or any cold weather apparel for fishing or just to stay warm, while you’re having fun in the snow, swing on into the Helena Store & we’ll gear you up.

Back next week!
