Ice conditions have deteriorated at all Helena Area Reservoirs and are no longer safe for anglers.  This is the final fishing report until mid April.

Canyon Ferry:  Ice is too unstable to access.  Open water has been confirmed throughout the entire reservoir in one capacity or another.  Some open water anglers are catching rainbow trout from shore using worms, spoons or nymphs, but look for rainbow fishing from shore to really pick up over the next few weeks.  No report for walleye, perch or ling.   Adam Strainer, FWP, Helena

Hauser:  Rainbow fishing is good from shore and boat at Riverside and York Bridge on Thomas Lures, egg sacks or dark streamer flies.   There is still some ice at Black Sandy, but it is becoming too unstable to access.  Lake Helena and the Causeway are ice free.  Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena

Holter:  Rainbow fishing is good at Gates of the Mountains from both shore and boat while using Marabou jigs, egg sacks or worms.  A few walleye are being caught at Gates of the Mountains on jigs and worms.  The lower reservoir still has ice, but it is too unstable to access.  Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena

Helena Valley Regulating Reservoir: Mostly open water so ice fishing season is over. Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena

(Report by Adam Strainer and Troy Humphrey of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks)
