Hi, Angie from Bob Ward & Sons here, & it’s “between seasons” on the HELENA area waters :

Spring is arriving & this may very well be the last weekend to ice-fish CANYON FERRY!  The trout-catching is GREAT, but with temps projected for the 60’s, any remaining ice won’t last long.  The HELENA HOLDING RESERVOIR is just about the LAST place to lose ice, & reports are that Kokanee is still some productive fishing there, so if you want to get in a last bit of fishing thru a hole, here’s the place to go.  Any depth from 20-40 feet is producing, say the experts at the Helena Bob Wards.  You can try even deeper, too.  Just be an early riser to get out on the ice first!

On the MISSOURI RIVER, fishing is switching into Spring mode with this weather, & that means active fish, & some risers!  Overcast days are seeing the most rising fish right now, but soon you’ll see them active on partly sunny days as well.  Stay downriver of Craig to avoid the wind, & wading conditions are just about perfect.  Try some smaller midge pupa, or get in there with your leftover winter nymphs or some egg sacs, & if you want the BIG browns, try a Conehead Brown Wooly Bugger on a slow retrieve, going as deeply as you can get!

What you need for all this open water becoming available is a new watercraft!  Bob Wards is getting in the spring swing with new boats arriving in the next couple weeks, so drop by & see what’s new!  We’ll show you around, & help you get set up for the fishing to come.  Back next week with more exciting adventures in HELENA fishing!
