Grizzly & Wolf Discovery center near Yellowstone National Park is helping their bear occupants keep cool this 4th of July holiday with giant ice treats.

The bears often receive frozen ice treats which are made by filling five-gallon buckets with fruits, veggies, bones, fish and meat, covering the mix with water and freezing them solid. The treats are then hidden around the exhibit and make for an entertaining meal.

The animal keepers are busy making ice treats like the one shown in feature photo (courtesy GWDC) with resident bear Roosevelt. This photo was taken last summer and the treats this year are planned to be bigger with red, white and blue layers. Smaller ice treats will also be put in the bear habitat throughout the day.

The center is open 365 days a year (these bears don’t hibernate) from 8:30am to 8:30pm.
