Winter Events and Ice Fishing Conditions in this MORS Weekly Wrap Up

The new year is off to a good start in 2014, with good ice coverage for fishing  in most places. The early cold snap and snow has provided us with options for recreating in the outdoors. Here are a few things going on this week around Montana:

Seeley Lake Pond Hockey will kick off its fourth season this Friday. More info here.

HERE ARE JANUARY 4TH FISHING CONDITIONS FROM AROUND THE STATE:

-Bill Brown at Bob Wards says there are lots of kokanee to be caught at Georgetown Lake. Chancy at Snappy’s says things still going well for area fisherman. Dale from Don’s in Lewistown says they have plenty of ice and fishing has been good. Dallas at Highline Cleaners in Chester says Tiber is doing well on Northerns mainly with smelt, and for more information call 406-759-5265. John Harris from Lakeside Resort in Trout Creek says the ice and fishing is good on Noxon Rapids Reservoir lots of 12 inch perch and a 27lb pike was brought in New Year’s Day. Leonard from Robert’s Bait and Tackle says Holter is still not safe. Ryan of Bob Wards in Bozeman & Butte says Nymphing is still your best bet in the Bozeman area. Georgetown  Reservoir is hot for kokanee and trout. In Helena, Clark Canyon Reservoir is frozen but be aware of where you are on the ice in warmer weather. Shelby says the ice fishing’s been real good around the north side of the island for ling. Tammy from Northwest Sports in Eureka says area lakes are froze over and be sure to use your ice cleats. Trevor Johnson of Kits Tackle says he’s been launching in below Canyon Ferry Lake and the trout fishing is phenomenal with glass minnows pitching towards shore. Steve Stauder reminds us of the Hebgin Lake Ice Fishing Tournament in January.
