KALISPELL – The Flathead Avalanche Center is reporting that they’ve received preliminary information of a Saturday afternoon avalanche fatality in the West Cabinet Mountains.

The Center reports the death happened at around 1:15 p.m. near Savage Mountain and the Idaho/Montana Border – about 15 miles southwest of Troy.

Two people in a group of four were caught and buried by an avalanche, the Center reports. One person was buried with only his face exposed and was dug out with no injuries.

However, the other person was fully buried and died. The center reports crews will not be able to perform a site investigation because of the avalanche hazard.
