Mountain lion season (with hounds) is in full swing and ends April 14th. Wolf season is still going on through March 15th. Spring turkey starts April 12th.
Canyon Ferry Lake ice may be thickening with this colder weather. Reports say up to 15 inches of ice on the south end by the silos and duck ponds. Observe caution, ice thickness can vary and ice ridges move around so pay close attention. The Perch bite has slowed a bit…several reports suggested very few bites but the hits they did get were on chartreuse jigs heads with a glow worm. For Rainbows, try setting up in the shallows looking for structures and drop some Swedish pimples in with a maggot.
Missouri River: the fishing has slowed but you might try fishing the stretch between Craig and the dam. Pink skuds or bead headed nymphs like flash prince nymphs or lightening bugs are the ticket right now. You might also try fishing the Rainbow Czech, Wired body San Juan worms, or Hot head Ray Charles…stick with pinks and purples—they have been really working well. Fish the deeper pools and tail-waters and try split-shotting to get your nymphs down deep, the cold water temperatures have forced the trout into deeper waters.
