Fishing access sites and wildlife management areas are among the public lands across west-central Montana to go under Stage I fire restrictions beginning Thursday, August 7th at 12:01 a.m.  Restrictions apply to all WMAs and FASs in Mineral, Missoula & Ravalli Counties.

Stage I restrictions ban campfires except where specifically exempted, and allow smoking only in vehicles and areas three feet in diameter that are cleared of flammable materials.

The only FAS in Mineral, Missoula & Ravalli Counties where campfires will be permitted under Stage I is Chief Looking Glass along the Bitterroot River near Florence.  Fires are prohibited at all WMAs. Cooking on an LP gas or propane stove that can be turned on and off is allowed.

Restrictions will be in effect until further notice. For more information about Stage 1 Fire Restrictions visitwww.firerestrictions.us.
