PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING WARNING FROM JOHN SHULER REGARDING THIN ICE ON HOLTER:

Bud and I just got back today and we were out on Holter with several other groups. Ice was a good 6 to 8 inches, but with opening areas. We were there for about 40 minutes, when an angler not 20 yards away suddenly went thru the ice. He  began clamoring to get out and his buddy went over to him. I yelled for him not to, but sure enough he went thru.
Luckily the buddy knew what to do as he spread his hands on the ice and rolled out. I finally got the first fellows attention as he kept trying to lift himself out and kept breaking thru. He stopped and looked at me and I told him to spread his hand and arms out to spread his weight out. He then was able to slide out.
It was warm out and neither had a lot of heavy clothes on that could have weighted them down.
Two lucky dudes. Anyway it’s not safe and getting worse today.
Needless to say everyone got the message and got off the lake.
Hopefully with the colder weather that’s coming it’ll refreeze to the point of fishable, those perch are waiting for us.
