There’s almost as much contrast between Blacktail Mountain Ski Area and nearby Whitefish Mountain Resort as there is between the colors black and white. Blacktail is a small operation located just outside of Lakeside, on the west shore of Flathead Lake. Whitefish has about three times the skiable terrain accessed via high-speed chairlifts. What they both share, though, is great skiing and fantastic views on clear days. Luckily, they are close enough so that skiers and snowboarders can visit both mountains during a weekend trip to northwestern Montana. Although the snow is quickly melting with this week’s warm temperatures, another spring snowfall is likely to help maintain skiing into April.
