The legislation, House Bill 2562, sparked intense opposition from sportsmen and dog owners across Texas.
“Texas sportsmen and dog owners did a great job of rallying opposition to derail this legislation before it could be snuck through by the animal rights lobby,” said Adam Wright, USSA associate director of state services. “While this is a great victory, it is important to continue to remain vigilant and ensure that this proposal isn’t added on to another bill as an amendment at the last minute.”
The Texas legislature will adjourn for the session on June 1.
