Remember the 15 and Forward Listening Sessions held across the state in July and August?  Here’s an update from Montana FWP.

As you know, Montana Fish, Wildlife& Parks held listening sessions this summer as part of our ’15& Forward (15+F) initiative that is aimed at updating the agency’s vision and goals for the next 10+ years. These listening sessions helped us to understand what we are doing well and where we need to improve and prioritize in the years ahead. We had tremendous public participation and want to thank those of you that were able to attend or submit comments! We received 216 comments online, 11 via email and 4 through mail.

What is happening with all those flip charts and “clicker” question results?

FWP staff, led by our human dimensions expert, Mike Lewis, organized the comments recorded on flip charts during small group discussions into some digestible common themes and ideas.

Session participants also responded to a series of questions by using a hand-held “clicker” to answer questions shown on a screen in front of the room. Responses from all of those “clicker” questions were tabulated for review in a statewide analysis and also by individual listening session.

How are the listening session results informing 15+F?

The FWP 15+F Planning Team is using the information collected to help inform the development of guiding principles and goals for FWP’s updated vision document. Some of what we heard has also helped the Planning Team to see where the biggest issues and challenges facing the department may be now and in the years ahead. These are topics that the team will discuss at their Oct. and Dec. meetings.

Again, thank you for your input, and we hope you stay engaged.  If you have more ideas or comments, please continue to send them our way.
