Upper Salmon River Weekly Steelhead Summary Report (3-06-2016)

Steelhead angler effort on the upper Salmon River continued to increase over the past week. The majority of anglers were observed fishing downstream of North Fork in location code 15. Downstream of the Middle Fork, in location code 14, interviewed anglers averaged 10 hours per steelhead caught and 34 hours per steelhead kept. Interviewed anglers in location code 15 averaged 6 hours per steelhead caught and 13 hours per steelhead kept. Interviewed anglers in location code 16, downstream of the Lemhi River, averaged 11 hours per steelhead caught and 21 hours per steelhead kept. Downstream of the Pahsimeroi River in location code 17, interviewed anglers averaged 20 hours per steelhead caught and 28 hours per steelhead kept. Downstream of the East Fork in location code 18, interviewed anglers averaged 8 hours per steelhead caught and 13 hours per steelhead kept. Upstream of the East Fork in location code 19, interviewed anglers averaged 85 hours per steelhead caught and did not report any steelhead kept.

The Salmon River is currently flowing at 1,180 cfs through the town of Salmon, ID which is 109 percent of average for today’s date. Water temperatures were in the upper 30s and lower 40s over weekend. The river’s visibility was cloudy downstream of Challis throughout the week.
