If you like seeing the little guys – bear cubs, wolf pups, bison calves – now’s the time to visit Yellowstone National Park. One of the big attractions has been a wolf den containing eight pups that is visible from the road to Slough Creek campground. Even though it’s almost a mile-and-a-half off the road, the pointy-eared pups could be seen coming out of their den late Thursday afternoon … if you have a spotting scope or can talk someone who does into taking a look. The big boys are also out. Last week I saw a large grizzly bear atop a carcass in a mud bog between Mammoth Hot Springs and Tower Junction in the park’s northern region. With the area greening up from all of the spring moisture and sunshine, it’s a great time to plan a trip to Yellowstone or any of your favorite outdoor places before the summer tourists arrive.
