After a couple of days with his son Willie and Downrigger Dale fishing for walleye on Canyon Ferry, the Captain headed for a second time the summer to fish for walleye at Hell Creek Marina on Fort Peck.

fishingphotographyThe results have been mixed so far with a good day Monday and a slower day on Tuesday.  They fished 14 feet-deep on Monday, but they were told by a handful of successful anglers that they should have been near 20 feet or deeper on Tuesday.

Leeches and crawlers worked the best with minnows working for Mary Beth Kibler of Kibler Ottfitters.  She figured it out that deeper was better and caught some nice walleyes at 20 feet by putting 2 minnows on a crawler harness with a trout-colored Colorado spinner.  She told the Captain that she was trolling 1.2 mph with 3-ounce bottom bouncers so she could stay vertical.

The Captain and Downrigger Dale will be at the Montana Walleye Governor’s Cup this year broadcasting the Montana Outdoor Radio Show live from the official boat!
