SWAN LAKE, MT…The 35th annual Swan Lake Huckleberry Festival is looking for bakers of all ages to enter the festival’s Huckleberry Baking Contest.  A separate category for children age 10 and under has been added to allow the younger set to compete with bakers their own age.  The valley’s original Huckleberry Festival is scheduled for Saturday, August 13 at the Swan lake Day Park near mile marker 72 on Montana Highway 83.
According to baking contest chair, Sylvia Eliason, the rules for both children and adults are the same.  Baking contest entries must be huckleberry-based with a minimum of three servings provided.  There is no registration fee and advance registration is not required. Entries will be accepted Saturday morning starting at 10:30 am.  Judges will begin their work at 11 am.  Prizes will be awarded for the top three entries in the adult and children’s categories.  For more information about the contest, e-mail Sylvia at sylvia.swan@usamontana.com.
In addition to the Huckleberry Baking contest, activities include a pancake breakfast starting at 8 am, Huckleberry Baked Goods Sale, kids’ activities and games, a silent auction, grand prize drawing, split-the-pot and raffles of donated items including gift certificates and products from area restaurants and merchants.
The festival will feature an Arts and Crafts Fair with more than 50 vendors offering a wide array of handicrafts, gifts, Montana-made products, food and country-made delicacies.  The Ashley Creek Ramblers featuring Roy Wilhelm will play from 11:30 am until 3:30 pm.
The Festival is sponsored by the Swan Lake Chamber of Commerce and Community Club. Festival proceeds will be used to fund maintenance of the Swan Lake Community Center.
