Can you find a .22 shell casing in a field without a metal detector? Oola can. Oola is a Dutch shepherd trained by Columbus game warden Paul Luepke, the first working dog authorized for use by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. Luepke has trained himself, as well as Oola and her predecessor Axel, in how to search out evidence, find people and identify game like brown trout. Several other states already use dogs to help game wardens in their investigations. Idaho has three dogs, all of which are supported through donations.
To learn more about Oola’s abilities, check out my story on the Billings Gazette’s Outdoors page at: http://billingsgazette.com/lifestyles/recreation/
