Howe’s Fishing/NW Montana Update! (by Mike Howe)

The recent, unexpected passing of Captain Bob Orsua, owner and outfitter at Mo Fisch Charters has impacted much of the Flathead Valley fishing community.  Often, out of tragedy however, comes opportunity and blessing for those left behind.  So it is fitting that Captain Bob’s vision for the future of the company that he founded and worked so hard to build for more than a decade will continue.

Captain Mike Howe, owner and outfitter at Howe’s Fishing/A Able Charters has stepped in and purchased Mo Fisch Charters and plans to continue operations without hesitation or noticeable change, other than the void that Bob’s passing has left.  Mo Fisch Charters will continue to offer the same level of outstanding customer service with veteran guides Matt McComb , Tom Cobianco, and new guide Junior Garrison who will operate Bob’s Sea Raider, all from the same Lakeside, Montana and Lake Koocanusa locations.

Mike began his guiding career with Bob in 2009 and currently operates Howe’s Fishing/A Able Charters from the Marina Cay Resort in Bigfork, Montana with guides Clay Anderson, Pat Campanella and Chris Mischke.  Bob and Matt both got their start guiding for Shorty Goggins and A Able back in the late ‘90’s and early 2000’s, so this is a sort of homecoming and completion of a circle in some way.

Mo Fisch and A Able Charters were responsible for over 2,500 paid angler days on Flathead Lake alone last year and together represent over 40 years of charter fishing service on Flathead Lake.  There are few, if any, freshwater charter services in the West that can claim that level of customer service.  And this is only the beginning for 2017 and beyond.

Howe’s Fishing/A Able Charters had recently expanded into Eastern Montana, offering open water as well as ice fishing charters on Fort Peck Lake, as well as a dozen or more water bodies East of the Divide.  Captain Mike has also promoted over 40 ice fishing tournaments (Perch Assault, Ice Duels and PerchMasters) in six states over the last 11 years.  It is safe to say that both of these businesses associated activities have dominated the Montana fishing scene, and will continue to grow, now more than ever.
