Flathead Basin Commission Meeting
April 7, 2017

Members of the Flathead Basin Commission (FBC) will hold a meeting on April 12, 2017 from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm at Glacier Bank in Whitefish.

The morning portion of the meeting will focus on FBC administrative issues, along with updates various FBC activities. Jim Simpson from the Lake County Conservation District will summarize the proposed Swan Forest Initiative Proposal, and will be asking FBC members for their support.

Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) will dominate most of the morning session, including an update on AIS legislation coming out of the 2017 legislative session. The FBC will also focus on additional steps that will be needed within the Basin for the 2017 boating season.

The afternoon portion of the meeting will focus in large part on rail safety. The Flathead Lakers will air their Oil and Water Don’t Mix, a video that highlights the threat of an oil train derailment and spill for the clean waters and unique landscapes of the Flathead Watershed in northwest Montana. A discuss will follow the video.

The FBC was established by the Montana Legislature in 1983 to protect the water quality of the Flathead River drainage system. All FBC meetings are open to the public. For more information, contact the FBC at 240-3453.
