Fort Peck Week-Windy and a Whopper Walleye!

Downrigger Dale and the Captain headed to Fort Peck last week. They fished out Hell Creek Marina where the wind blew almost everyday. It made for tough fishing. The walleye bite was sporadic at best for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The biggest fish that the duo caught were carp and drum. On Saturday, Brett French, the Outdoor Editor of the Billings Gazette, arrived and joined them. It was a late start out on the water as they did the Montana Outdoor Radio Show on location at the marina.

Once they hit the water, it didn’t take Downrigger Dale long to hook up on a monster fish! This time, it wasn’t a pike, carp, or drum–it was a walleye, and a big one at that! The big walleye put Downrigger in the 30-inch club as it measured exactly 30 inches with a girth of 15 inches. After snapping a photo, the Rigger put it back where it came from for another angler to possibly enjoy catching.
Nice job, Downrigger!
