Philipsburg, MT., Sept. 29, 2017— The Pintler Ranger District has issued a closure order for several trails in the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness due to damage to bridges and other structures from the Meyers Fire that caused the trails to be impassable or dangerous to hikers and horsemen.  “Until the structures can be removed or replaced it is in the best interest of public safety to close the trails,” said Acting District Ranger Eric Tomasik.

In addition to the loss of bridges there numerous trees that have fallen across the trail.  Crews have begun work to clear trails this fall, but most of the work will continue next summer.  Trail closures include Carpp Lake Trail No. 8110 to Lower Carpp Lake, Highline Trail No. 8111 from Pintler Pass to Lower Carpp Lake, Falls Fork Trail No. 8029 and Middle Fork Trail No. 8028.

Access into the wilderness is still open from East Fork Reservoir and Storm Lake where the fire did not reach; however access may be limited in the Maloney Basin area.  The closure order and map can be viewed online at: https://go.usa.gov/xnqZV.  For more information about accessible trails contact the Pintler Ranger District in Philipsburg at (406) 859-3211
