Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks suspect a 5×5 mule deer buck from the “Pit Herd,” a group of deer known to hang around the Berkeley Pit, was poached Saturday night.

Montana Untamed reported the buck was shot at about 10:30 p.m. near the Granite Mountain Memorial. FWP identified a suspect and could file charges.

The antlers and carcass were confiscated. The buck will be scored to determine how much restitution the state could require.
