The application deadline for the first class of the Montana Master Hunter Program is less than a week away.

Experienced big game hunters who wish to be among the the first 30 certified master hunters in Montana have until April 1 to submit an application.

The program is not affiliated with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks directly and is organized by One Montana, a non-partisan nonprofit organization.

The program includes online, classroom and field instruction between April and June. Hunters selected for the program will pay $200 to offset the cost of the program and pay for room and board during the field portion.

Hunters who complete the program will have received further education in landowner issues, hunting ethics and will be certified at their maximum effective range with their personal firearm. In return for certification, master hunters will have access to exclusive hunting opportunities on the property of participating land holders.
