(Billings, MT) – Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) will host “A Visit with an 1879 American Fur Company Trader” with Greg Smith at Pictograph Cave State Park on Saturday, June 30

Through the fictitious character of Jim Deakins, living history speaker Greg Smith brings to life the adventures and stories of James W. Schultz (1859-1947).  Schultz is most noted for authoring 37 books, most about life with the Blackfeet, and for the naming of many prominent features in Glacier National Park.

Through the colorful narrative of Jim Deakins, audiences will take part in the thrill of hunting the last of the great bison herds of the Great Plains of a long-lost era, share in the adventures of the Blackfeet and their enemy the Crow, and hear stories of that “foolishness” called Yellowstone National Park. Finally, Jim Deakins shares a powerful gift given by the Blackfoot medicine warrior Red Eagle. Come along and join Jim Deakins in the year 1879!”
