Helena Area Reservoirs Fishing Report 8.27.18

Canyon Ferry:  Rainbow fishing is slow with a few being caught by boat anglers using cowbells or spoons near the dam, Cemetary Island and Hellgate Bay. Walleye action continues to be good around Goose Bay, White Earth and the Silos trolling worm harnesses, tipped with worms or leeches.  A few perch are being caught in these areas as well.  Shore anglers are catching a few walleye and perch throughout the reservoir using worms and/or jigs (standard and floating) tipped with worms.  Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena
Hauser:  Some rainbows are being caught in the mornings while trolling cowbells 20 feet deep around the mouth of the Causeway and White Sandy and in the Devil’s Elbow area.  Shore fishing is fair while using worms or Powerbait near Riverside and the Causeway Bridge. A lot of small walleye are being caught in the Causeway Arm and around Spokane Bay on jigs and worms or leeches in 8 to 15 feet of water.  A few walleye are being caught from shore at the Causeway Bridge on jigs and worms.  Some perch are being caught in the Causeway as well on jigs. Holter:  Rainbow fishing is good while trolling cowbells or perch colored crankbaits in the mornings from Split Rock to Holter Dam at depths of 20 to 30 feet.  Shore fishing for rainbows is slow. A few walleye are being caught around Gates of the Mountains, Split Rock, Cottonwood Creek and the bays by Holter Dam.  Most walleye are being caught on jigs and a worm or leech in 15 to 20 feet of water.  Perch are being caught throughout the reservoir in small bays, around weedbeds and from the docks at the boat ramps in 6 to 15 feet of water while using jigs and worms.  Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena
Helena Valley Regulating Reservoir:  The snagging season for Kokanee Salmon opens on September 1st and will run through October 31st.  Limits are 35 salmon daily with 70 in possession.  Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena
