In Montana the BLM oversees about 8 million acres of land, much of which is available for public hunting and fishing. A recent study calculated that all of the wildlife on that acreage generates about $134 million in salaries and wages, and $18 million in state and local taxes. Putting a value to public lands is important in the ongoing debate about who should manage public lands and their worth to hunters and anglers.
