Virtual fence to be tested on cattle (by Brett French)

What if cattle could be contained without a fence? Think of the cost savings to ranchers and the ability it would give wildlife to roam more easily. A Montana rancher will be the subject of a test project involving new technology that creates a virtual fence, somewhat like the invisible fences dog owners use. Fitted with a collar, the cattle would be warned and then mildly shocked when getting close to a boundary drawn on a smart phone or pad. What’s more, the rancher could move the cattle using the program without even being in the field.
Read my story in this week’s Billings Gazette to learn more about this interesting technology at: https://billingsgazette.com/outdoors/cyber-cows-hi-line-rancher-wins-grant-to-test-virtual/article_383bbc53-b3a3-59c2-9fb0-77b7a3a44f70.html
