Fishermen:

I thought a short note to “you all” would be appropriate considering most would like to know when there is good fishing within walking distance if you live in Polson. Recent warm weather has activated small mouth bass and perch.

Yesterday, May 31st, my faithful dog, Molly, and I motored into one of my favorite perch fishing holes just downstream from the new Polson fishing dock. Because my main objective was fishing bait fish I didn’t want to spend too much time fishing perch.

IN about a 45 minute span I as able to land (see picture) over 30 keeper perch. I can’t ever remember a time when I was able to consistently catch that many large perch there. Two Fuzz Bugs above a bottom weight baited with night crawlers was my choice of tackle.

A crowd of people fishing from the dock also seemed to be doing well.

Lake Mary Ronan as well as Bitterroot Lake on Highway 2 have been giving up some large kokanee up to 18 inches.

Of all places right in front of the boat ramp at the Lake Mary Ronan State Park has been hot for both kokanee and perch.

Pablo Reservoir and Kicking Horse Reservoir have been good for bass and pike.
