Have you ever wondered how fire affects plants and animals and shapes forests in our region? Join biologists Scott Tomson (Wildlife) and Shane Hendrickson (Fisheries) from the Lolo National Forest to explore the Rice Ridge Burn north of Ovando. We’ll take a short walk through areas of different burn severities to explore these topics and learn about fire history. We’ll also look at some salvage logging operations in the area.
We’ll meet at 9:00 a.m. at the USFS Monture Guard Station. To reach it, turn north of Highway 200 just west of mile marker 45 onto Monture Creek Road, and drive approximately 7 miles, past the Monture Campground to the Guard Station on the right. Be sure to wear sturdy walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.
