Livingston, MT – Construction on the Porcupine Ibex Trail on the west side of the Crazy Mountains is expected to begin the week of August 19th.  The trail, located north of Livingston, Montana on the Yellowstone Ranger District, includes 2.7 miles of new trail construction to connect the Porcupine Cabin Trailhead to the North Fork Elk Creek Trail #195 and to secure long term public access to this area.  Construction will likely take six to eight weeks to complete.

During construction please utilize alternative access points on the west or north side of the Crazy Mountains.  Cottonwood Trailhead, and the Cottonwood Creek Trail #197 and the Trespass Creek Trail #268 provide similar access to the Campfire Lake area and upper Elk Creek.

“We recognize this trail will be an asset to recreationists and have received much public input in support of this project,” said Mary Erickson, Custer Gallatin Forest Supervisor.  “We want to complete this portion of the trail construction work as safely and efficiently as possible and ask recreationists to utilize alternative access points.”

For more information about trail construction please call the Yellowstone Ranger District at (406) 222-1892.
