Recreational Trails Program Grant Cycle Opens November 1

Helena, MT) –Montana State Parks (stateparks.mt.gov) will begin accepting grant applications for the Recreational Trails Program (RTP) on Friday, November 1, 2019 at 12pm through the online system at fundingmt.org. The application deadline is January 31, 2020 at 3:00pm.

RTP applicants can include federal, state, county or municipal agencies, private associations and clubs (not individuals).  Eligible projects include: development of trail linkages near homes and work places; construction and maintenance of trails; development of trailside and trailhead facilities; trail-related education and interpretive programs; and weed control along trails and trailhead areas.

Recreational Trails Program training sessions will be offered around the state for all prospective applicants. These sessions are free and highly recommended for new and returning applicants. The trainings provide tips on writing a competitive application and focus on recent changes to RTP guidelines. In-person trainings will be held on the following dates:

Wed, 11/6, 1pm-4pm, Missoula
FWP Region 2 Headquarters, 3201 Spurgin Road, Missoula, MT

Wed, 11/13, 9am-Noon, Helena (in-person and online)
FWP Annex (3rd Floor), 1625 11th Ave, Helena, MT

Thu, 11/14, 1pm-4pm, Billings
FWP Region 5 Headquarters, 2300 Lake Elmo Drive, Billings, MT

Wed, 11/20, 1pm-4pm, Bozeman
FWP Region 3 Headquarters, 1400 South 19th, Bozeman, MT

In addition to the in-person sessions, an online training will be held on Wednesday, November 13 from 9am to 12pm. Barring technical issues, this training session will be recorded and made available at stateparks.mt.gov after November 13.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks manages the annual RTP grant program which administers federal funding with oversight from the Federal Highway Administration.
