Wood Ducks are arguably one of the most beautiful ducks in North America. If you want to see Wood Ducks in the Fall, maybe give them some love now.

The Pandemic has certainly caused us to think about service and respect to each other. We make face masks, shop for friends, donate cash or food and stay a safe distance apart. For the Sportsmen, here is a way to give some service and love to waterfowl.

Search how to make duck and goose nests and boxes. Place them in promising areas and enjoy the outcome.

Spring is when reproduction occurs. Start with a Wood Duck box. We all have the tools and skills to make this easy design. Scrap wood works perfect. Landowners are eager and willing to allow you to add them to their property. This can easily lead to permission.

You can get the designs and dimensions from your local FWP or DNR websites. Ducks Unlimited also has great plans and suggestions on where and how to place them.

Nesting box construction is not complicated. Make a dozen or so and locate homes for them. Check them annually to do repairs and cleaning. Unfortunately, wasps and other unwanted critters may use the boxes. Keep adjusting locations until you get a regular record of Wood Duck uses.

If you build it, they will come!
