Current Conditions

The Yellowstone is quite slushy today. The weather looks like it will warm up significantly as of tomorrow. The stone will still fish pretty tough after this cold. There are better fishing options around Bozeman until these temperatures stabilize for a day or so. If you do try your hand on the Stone, toss a little olive mayfly nymph, soft hackle or midge behind a worm or a stonefly nymph. White, olive, and black are my go to streamer colors. Get flies down deep as fish will start to hunker into deep slow pools with the cold temperatures. Some dry fly action is possible in slower moving water with baetis and midges. Cloudy and windless days will be the best days to search for trout eating on the surface.
