In an unusual lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court this fall, a Nye-area outfitter and his family are suing the Custer Gallatin National Forest over a proposed new trail. The trail would access the West Fork of the Stillwater River. Paul and Cathy Donohoe, of Donohoe Outfitting, along with five of their family are arguing in part that the trail could be harmful for grizzly bears. The lawsuit says by building the trail the big bruins would more easily access ranches along the Beartooth Front leading to livestock predations and the bears’ eventual death for killing livestock.
