From Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest
Good evening. For those who celebrate Christmas, some start decorating for the holidays as soon as possible, while others hold off until after Thanksgiving. A few are lucky to get it done before Christmas day. Whatever your decorating style, if you’re going to be using a permit to get a tree, here are a few tips.
In order to help the forest, you can cut your tree from within an overcrowded stand of trees. Try to avoid cutting trees from beside major roads, in campgrounds, or other well-used areas. It’s best to cut a tree shorter than 12 ft. high and not to cut the top off of a large tree. Cut stumps so they are no higher than six inches off the ground and cut below the last live limb.
We hope you find these tips helpful and feel free to send us pictures of your adventure in getting one…or misadventure 😉 We have all been there.
