Two new conservation easements were approved by the Fish and Wildlife Commission recently. One will protect more than 7,200 acres near Marion in northwest Montana. The other creates access through 1,700 acres to the Upper Missouri River Breaks near Denton. The commission also approved Fish, Wildlife & Parks’ request to pursue the purchase of 8,300 acres on the south side of the Big Snowy Mountains, north of Ryegate. The land abuts another parcel FWP is seeking to buy from Shodair Children’s hospital that is more than 5,600 acres. Together, they could create a large new wildlife management area that adjoins large parcels of BLM and Forest Service lands.
