In 1897 an adventurous East Coast woman wrote the first widely published story about fly fishing in Yellowstone National Park. Mary Trowbridge Townsend must have been quite the woman. She also published an article about mountain goat hunting in Washington state a year earlier. Even that long ago, nonnative rainbow, brown and brook trout had already been introduced to Yellowstone’s waters.
