Winter Steelhead is an Idaho tradition. Catching HUGE Rainbows never gets old. You may only hook up a few times a day but when you do, it will be a monster fish and memory.

My friend Eric and his fiancé Lacy, love to take time to drift for BIG Steelies! They fish the Clearwater, and other waters near their Idaho home. “It’s great fishing between Kooskia and Lewiston.” Eric always has a secret trick or tip. His boat handling and intensity are only surpassed by his patience, and zest for life.

Eric Wilcox, aka Mr. Steelhead, is a fishing guide and can show you the ropes. He guided for years in Southwest Montana and the Bighorn River. Winters used to be spent tying flies for commercial companies and hunting. Now he is focused on hooking Steelheads, and he is pretty good at it.

On this January day they netted 4 monster fish. Lacy latched onto a monster, after Eric, just last week. All 4 fish were massive trophies and typical of the fish they routinely catch.

Steel Fever is on!
