Kalispell, MT April 20, 2021— Chris Dowling, Swan Lake District Ranger, and his staff, invite the public to a field trip about the proposed Dayton project to become familiar with the project area and to collaborate on the development of the proposed action.
The meeting will take place Monday, May 3rd, 2021 from 5:00pm to 6:00pm at the Blacktail Nordic Trail trailhead at the junction of Blacktail Mountain Road and Forest Road 10138 (see map). Please RSVP by email to the project leader listed below by April 26th, 2021. Participants are asked to provide their own transportation, bring outdoor clothing, and water.
Public safety during COVID is important to us therefore the following protocols and CDC prevention guidelines will be followed: Social distancing; there will be no personal interaction such as traditional handshakes or high-fives; people who are sick are encouraged not to attend. We also encourage personal protective measures among attendees (e.g., handwashing, respiratory etiquette). We will not provide masks and attendees will need to bring their own. Please refer to the Flathead City-County Health department website for self-screening of COVID-19 symptoms.
The meeting will include a brief presentation on the HFRA Insect and Disease Categorical Exclusion, development of the purpose and need, and the possible vegetation management activities. Overall, this meeting will explore the reasons for doing a project and learn about what actions might be proposed, provide additional action ideas/suggestions, and discuss options for when, where and how those actions might happen. The primary purposes of this project are expected to address insect and disease issues to maintain or enhance forest productivity and increase resilience to disturbances and provide a mix of forest products to contribute to economic sustainability.
