Adam Strainer, Helena area fisheries biologist, wanted to remind anglers of two very important things to go with the weekly Helena Area Reservoirs Fishing Report:

In addition to the great weekly fishing report I’d also like to an opportunity to provide two reminders while fishing Helena area reservoirs this spring:

  1. It is ILLEGAL to use live minnows as bait in the Missouri River upstream of Moroney Dam (near Great Falls), including Helena area reservoirs. Please, make sure to check the regulations before each trip and don’t hesitate to call 1-800-TIP-MONT if you see someone using live minnows where they shouldn’t be.
  2. New walleye regulations on the Missouri River from Toston Dam to Canyon Ferry Reservoir and Canyon Ferry and Hauser Reservoirs went into effect on April 1, 2021.  The new walleye regulation is: 10 daily, 1 over 15 inches; possession is twice the daily limit.

Thanks for your time and good luck fishing this spring!
