Hungry Horse Dam to open

HUNGRY HORSE, Mont. – Today, the Bureau of Reclamation announced the opening of the Hungry Horse Dam Visitor Center Memorial Day weekend, May 28–May 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. MDT. Following the holiday weekend, the center will be open Friday through Sunday through June 13. Beginning June 18, the visitor center will be open daily through Oct. 9.

To safely open the visitor center, Reclamation will be following the recommended guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Fully vaccinated visitors are no longer required to wear a mask. “The health and safety of the public and our employees remains our number one priority,” said Hungry Horse Hungry Horse Field Office Manager Bill Dykes.

Exhibits about the history of Hungry Horse Dam and its importance to the Federal Columbia River Power System are featured. Outdoor, guided walking tours will be available beginning June 18 on a first-come, first-serve basis. A maximum of 12 people is allowed on the tour. Hungry Horse Dam is located off Highway 2 in Hungry Horse, Mont. Directional signs located on Highway 2 indicate the road leading to the visitor center. From Highway 2 travel about 4.5 miles to the visitor center at the north end of the dam.
