MISSOULA– A small section of the Upper Clark Fork River just downstream of Bearmouth Fishing Access Site (FAS) will close temporarily beginning Monday, Sept. 6 while Montana Rail Link (MRL) repairs a bridge.

The closure impacts the river approximately 100 feet upstream and downstream of the railway bridge, which is located just below Bearmouth FAS. The closure applies to all floating, wading, fishing, swimming and other activities.  Bearmouth is the last public takeout upstream of the closed area.

MRL requested the closure in the interest of safety for the public and its construction crew. During construction, MRL will completely divert water from the river’s main channel to a side channel, creating safety hazards for floaters and others.

The closure is expected to be in place for at least two weeks and may be continued or reinstated as work proceeds. The immediate area and nearby access sites will be signed when closed, and information on the closure status will be available online at fwp.mt.gov/news/allnews and facebook.com/MontanaFWP.R2 or by calling FWP at 406-542-5500 .
