Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks urges floaters and river users to review and comment upon potential updates to the 2009 Smith River State Park and River Corridor Recreation Management Plan before the public comment period ends at 5 p.m. on Dec. 15.
The process of updating the 2009 Smith River Management Plan began earlier this summer with a focus on four primary management issues:
- Management of Camp Baker
- Human waste management
- Natural and cultural resource impacts
- Floater opportunities
These potential updates are included in a draft environmental assessment (EA), which is available to the public for review and comment. Online public meetings were held on Dec. 1 and 7 with river managers and agency staff to discuss the update and answer questions. The meetings were recorded and can be viewed on the website below.
To read the EA and the management plan, learn more about the planning process and to submit comments, please visit the Smith River Management Plan web page at fwp.mt.gov/stateparks/smith-river/management
