FWP proposes to purchase, add 829-acre parcel to Mt. Haggin WMA

ANACONDA – Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking comments on a proposal to purchase in fee title an 829-acre parcel of private land adjacent to Mt. Haggin Wildlife Management Area, about 4 miles south of Anaconda. Upon purchase, the parcel would be incorporated into and managed as part of the WMA.

The proposed addition shares 2.5 miles of boundary with the WMA and contains winter range that mule deer and elk use heavily. It also contains high-quality pronghorn fawning and summer range. Mill and Willow creeks run through the property, providing riparian habitat.

FWP has published an environmental assessment of the proposed purchase. That assessment can be viewed online at go.usa.gov/xtmfq.

FWP will host an open house on this proposal on Feb. 8 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Butte Area Resource Office at the address below. The public is invited to attend and provide comments. The deadline for comments is 5 p.m. on March 1.
