Lone Pine State Park hosting educational programs, events in June

KALISPELL — Lone Pine State Park in Kalispell is hosting several family friend educational programs and events in the month of June. Learn more about Montana’s state parks at https://fwp.mt.gov/stateparks

National Trails Day

Saturday, June 4, 8:30 a.m.- 1 p.m.

Lone Pine State Park will partner with Montana Conservation Corps, Foy’s to Blacktail Trails, the Rotary Club and community volunteers to combat noxious weeds and work on several trail projects. This is a great opportunity to volunteer at the park and learn a few new skills in trail building. Participants will meet at Lone Pine’s West Foy’s Lake parking lot and divide into teams for their assigned projects. Work will continue until noon, followed by a barbeque lunch at the Lone Pine Picnic Shelter, generously provided by Rotary. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes and bring water, snacks, gloves, and sun protection.

Workday Wednesday

June 8 and June 22, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Celebrate Great Outdoors Month by helping with trail work and pulling noxious weeds. Certain areas of the park have Spotted Knapweed and Houndstongue. Call the visitor center at (406) 755-2706 Ext. 0 to register. Cost is free ($8 park entry fee still applies to out-of-state vehicles).

Campfire Session: The Nocturnals

Friday, June 10, 8:30-9:30 p.m.

Enjoy a campfire at the picnic shelter while discussing the animals that stay up through the night. These nocturnal animals prefer the darkness and have adapted to use it to their advantage. Join us around the fire as we learn about these interesting animals. National Get Outdoors Day: Nature Hike

Saturday, June 11, 2-3 p.m.

Enjoy the flora and fauna at Lone Pine State Park. On this hike, participants discuss the plants and animals that call Lone Pine home. Call the visitor center at (406) 755-2706 Ext. 0 to registerCost is free ($8 park entry fee still applies to out-of-state vehicles).

 

Forestry Hike

Saturday, June 18, Noon-1 p.m.

Enjoy a one-hour hike to learn how to identify trees, common diseases, and learn about forest management. Participants will discuss the ecology of the flora and fauna that call Lone Pine home. Foraging Hike

Sunday, June 19, 3-5 p.m.

Lichen Identification Hike

Saturday, June 25, 1-2 p.m.
