The colder water temperatures have proven to be a prime time for some great trout fishing. In a time when we are used to being cooked by sunshine and dryer temperatures, the colder weather has made for great fishing in mountain streams and ponds. With the water temperature hindering the algae growth, the ponds are still accessible and cold enough to make for some active trout.
Yours truly recently fished a mountain pond near Martinsdale, MT that produced some gorgeous brook trout for my 11 year old nephew Easton. The colors of the fish as well as the deep red grapefruit color of the flesh made us grateful for the colder than normal weekend temperatures.
