From Flathead National Forest: ⚠️🐻 A grizzly bear consumed unsecured dog food in the Van Lake Campground in the Swan Lake Ranger District. The bear has been seen shaking camp trailers and searching for additional food. We’re asking visitors to the campground to be extra vigilant about their surroundings and properly storing bear attractants. The campground has bear-resistant storage boxes available for visitor use.
Remember, all attractants need to be kept away from bears. Attractants include:
➡️ All human food, including canned goods and beverages. Burn all scraps off the grill if leaving it unattended.
➡️ All toiletries, including toothpaste, lip balm, sunscreen, and deodorant.
➡️ All garbage.
➡️ Wildlife carcasses, birds, fish, or other animal parts.
➡️ All pet and livestock food (except baled or cubed hay without additives).
Failure to properly store attractants can result in injury or property damage and have serious negative impacts on bears
